Charterhouse hits 1K in support of Guide Dogs for the Blind
On 11th November the Brethren of Charterhouse were delighted to welcome Ken Lynn from Guide Dogs for the Blind and his Dog “Brodie” to the Ladies & Gentleman to Dine Evening after the Regular Lodge Meeting
Sadly, in early 2018 the Worshipful Master, W. Bro John George lost his wide Maraid after a brave battle with cancer. The brethren led by the Almoner W. Bro Barrie Ratcliffe decided that as a fitting tribute to Maraid that we would sponsor the training of a Guide Dog Puppy, a cause close to her heart.
We were initially “allocated” Harry but after a period of training he was deemed not suitable and retired to a loving Home. We were instead given Poppy and are delighted to say that she is doing well and progressing rapidly with her training.
Ken gave those present an overview of what Guide Dogs for the Blind do, how a dog is trained and more importantly how each dog is matched to each individual focusing on their needs and lifestyle. After this most informative presentation a cheque for £1,000 which has been raised over the past 12 months by the Brethren, was presented.
The photo below features the volunteer recipient with his dog (who is a stud dog for other guide dogs) receiving the Cheque from the Lodge Almoner, W Bro Barrie Ratcliffe on behalf of the Lodge.
